Civil Service strengths interview questions
Reflect honestly; leave room for your initial response.
Strengths concern work you do well, find motivating and use regularly. Official guidance asks candidates to reflect on their strengths and preferred ways of working, and advises against rehearsing answers. A behaviour example and a strengths response serve different purposes.
Original reflection prompts
- Which tasks do you choose when you have a choice, and why?
- When have you enjoyed explaining a difficult idea to someone?
- How do you feel about checking detailed work repeatedly?
These prompts are independent preparation, not predicted interview questions. Think about a recent genuine experience and how you felt doing it. Avoid learning an ideal personality or a polished script. You can practise speaking clearly without memorising an answer.
Read official strengths guidance, then follow the interview preparation sequence. Your advert determines the elements and selection methods.
